Title : Shreveport, Louisiana, U.S.A. October 1994

Caption :

The most obvious feature in the southeast-looking photograph of northwest Louisiana and northeast Texas is the broad swath of floodplain, much of it cultivated, that has been created by the Red River as it flows south toward Shreveport and then southeast to the Mississippi River. Many large sandbars (lighter areas) appear in the main channel of the Red River as it winds back and forth across the floodplain with Shreveport on its west bank and Bossier City and Barksdale Air Force Base on the east bank. Visible northwest of Shreveport are Cross Lake and larger Caddo Lake on the Texas-Louisiana border. Most of the landscape is composed of gently rolling, forested hills with darker, mixed stands of pine and deciduous trees.
